Things for Families to Consider Before Enrolling
Changing schools is a big decision!  We want your student to have a great experience with us and make their transition into our school successful. Student retention, happiness, and academic success are essential to all of us. The following is a list of things to consider before you submit your enrollment application:
  • Is your child ready for a rigorous academic environment?
  • If your student is on an IEP or has a 504, will their academic goals be met with our Resource Room-only student services?
  • How attached is your child to his/her current school, friends, and teachers?
  • How is your child’s ability to transition to a new environment?
  • Does your child have siblings in another school, meaning multiple drop-offs and pick-ups to coordinate? Our school does not provide school bus service.
  • How does our school location impact your commute to/from work?
  • Is your family fully committed to fieldwork which may include an overnight trip?  Parent volunteers are used for fieldwork, but we cannot guarantee that you will always be allowed to attend.
We have a different academic day than the other public and private schools in the area. While we do give a morning and an afternoon recess (K-5th)  in addition to a lunch break, the kids are tired at the end of the day. However, they adjust, especially with the help of extra sleep at night and a healthy lunch at school. We also have a different calendar than our district schools. There are times we may be on campus when the district has days off.  Our school receives only 80% of the state funding allocated to public school students. Because of this, we rely on our family community for volunteer service and fundraising efforts to bridge our financial gap. While we do our best to cut our costs, fundraising, including donations, is critical to our success.

Admission FAQ's

Application to our public charter school is open to all Hillsboro, Oregon, residents and surrounding areas.  Like all Oregon public schools, there is no tuition charged, and all students are eligible to apply. City View does have an annual Fieldwork Fee and enrollment fee.

Admission is limited to 48 students for our incoming Kindergarten classes and to any openings in grades 1-8. Student acceptance is based on a computerized lottery at random. Students are accepted with siblings of current students first, students who reside inside the Hillsboro School District, then students who live outside of the Hillsboro School District boundaries. Once the spots are filled, the remaining names will form the waiting list.
  1. City View encourages families to begin their application process by reviewing our website and attending open houses (either online or virtual), to learn more about our program. We suggest all families review Our School and Programs.
  2. All applications submitted by the deadline are entered into the annual lottery. The lottery is held in the spring and determines which Kindergarten applicants will be offered admission for the following school year. The lottery also will fill any openings in grades 1-8 for the following year and build the waitlists. Please note: prior year’s waitlists are not rolled over; students must reapply each school year. The lottery conducted in the spring will establish a new waitlist for the upcoming school year. If you have missed the lottery, you may still apply and be placed on the waitlist.
  3. After the lottery, we will notify families via email to either accept your space in one of our classes or with your waiting list number. We will offer families one week to decide to take the spot in the school. We may notify you during the summer as we work through waitlists. If that happens, you will have to decide quickly, so please use the Open House and other information on our website to familiarize yourself with our program. Be prepared to make a quick decision!
  4. Please contact the school office if you’re interested in enrolling your child in the current school year or after the lottery dates. If there is space available, you will be notified of an opportunity to enroll after we receive your application. Your student will be placed on our waitlist if no space is available.
Our Kindergarten Crew typically has the most openings. However, we will not know how many openings we have until closer to the lottery date. Siblings of existing students will fill some of the spaces. In other classes, there may be few spots at the lottery time. Interested families can still apply and will be added to the waitlist in case spaces become available.
As a public charter school, we have limited special education and student
services resources. The Hillsboro School District provides a Resource Materials Teacher
and a Speech and Language Pathologist for students with IEPs, however these (2)
specialists are only available on a part-time basis. Note: Potential enrollees with an IEP or 504 would be best served by scheduling a placement meeting with City View Charter School and the SpEd team at their current or "home" school.  Don't hesitate to get in touch with the office if you need more information.
For applications received by the lottery deadline, the lottery process will determine if you have either received a space in a class or what your position on the waitlist will be. Applicants will be notified of their position on the waitlist, and openings will be filled in numerical order from the list.  Our waitlist will not roll over yearly but will be recreated after each annual lottery.  All applicants interested in remaining on the waitlist must re-apply annually.  All applicants, including those on the waitlist, will be entered into a new randomized lottery, and a new waitlist will be generated.  The new waitlist will be in effect for the following school year.

The waitlists are utilized throughout the spring and summer and into the following school year to fill openings as they occur.  Waitlists are typically shorter in the mid to upper grades, particularly in the middle school grades. City View does accept applications after the annual lottery, those applicants will be added to the waitlist in case an opening becomes available. If the lottery deadline has passed, please contact us via phone or email, submit an application, and you will be placed on the waitlist.
In April of 2024, City View will be moving into our permanent home at 1920 NE Stucki, Hillsboro, OR.  This new facility will allor our students to all be together as Crew!
City View currently charges no fee, however there is a suggested donation to the school in the amount of $350 to $850 a year per student.

When a new student is offered a seat at City View, a non-refundable enrollment fee of $50 is due prior to enrollment forms being processed. This $50 non-refundable fee is not credited towards your fieldwork fees.
Yes, City View is still accepting applications for all grades EXCEPT 8th Grade.  All new applications will be added to the waitlist for any spaces we have this year.  We will take the waitlist in numerical order while still giving siblings and Hillsboro SD residents first priority.
From this point, you will be receiving updated information regarding the open houses your family is welcome to attend to get more information about the school. You will also receive more information about the lottery as we move closer.

The lottery will be ran electronically with a random generator. The system will email and/or SMS text you information about either your student's placement in a space at City View or their waitlist number.
We give priority to siblings of currently enrolled students the to students who reside inside the Hillsboro School District boundaries then outside the boundaries.
Please take a look in your SPAM folder as they can sometimes go there.  If you still cannot find it, please just log into your account and you can review your information.

Unfortunately, there are no crystal balls around here. However, historically we have to go to the waitlist during the summer.  Often what happens is a family will make a different decision during the summer and we will find out in August or the first part of September. So please think about if we were to call you in September would you be ready to move your student?

No, we do not keep our waitlists year to year. If you would like to try for a space for the next school year you will need to reapply starting next January.

You can log back into your account and view your information at any time.

Yes you will be emailed and/or receive a SMS text if a space comes available.

If a space does come available anytime during the school year we do try and fill that space. Again we work our way down the waitlist until it gets filled. The only exception is if the space comes available after April 1st of the school year, at that time the space will remain unfilled due to limited time in the rest of the school year.
Open houses will be held on April 20th.  Please use the link below to sign up
